Google Ads vs Facebook Ads: Which Is Right for Your Business?
The Google vs Facebook debate is one of the most common questions I get from e-commerce and service businesses. The honest answer is that both work — but for fundamentally different reasons.
Google Captures Demand. Facebook Creates It.
When someone searches Google for "e-commerce consultant Ontario," they're actively looking to solve a problem. Google puts your solution in front of them at the exact moment of intent. Facebook users aren't searching for anything — you're interrupting their scroll and trying to create interest that didn't exist yet.
When Google Wins
Google is stronger for high-intent purchases, service businesses, products with established search demand, and B2B. If people are actively searching for what you sell, Google captures that demand efficiently.
When Facebook Wins
Facebook is stronger for new product launches, impulse purchases, broad audience reach, and building brand awareness. If you're creating a new category or selling something buyers don't know to search for yet, Facebook builds the awareness that eventually drives Google searches.
The Real Answer for Most Businesses
Use both, but start with where your buyers are. For most service businesses and established product categories, start with Google. For new products, lifestyle brands, and visual products, start with Facebook. Once profitable on one, expand to the other.
The fix: Define where your buyer is in the purchase journey when they first encounter you. If they're searching, start with Google. If they don't know they need you yet, start with Facebook.
