How to Use Customer Testimonials to Build Trust on Your Website

By Scott Nguyen · Jun 2, 2026 · 1 min read

Customer testimonials are the most credible form of marketing content for a service business. Prospects trust what your clients say more than anything you say about yourself. Most businesses don't collect them systematically or display them effectively.

How to Collect Testimonials Systematically

The best testimonials come from asking at the right moment — immediately after delivering a result, when client satisfaction is at its peak. A direct link to a Google review form or a simple email reduces friction significantly and produces more responses than a generic request sent weeks later.

What Makes a Testimonial Effective

An effective testimonial contains three elements: the specific problem the client had before working with you, the specific result they achieved, and an expression of confidence in recommending you. Specific results — conversion rate improvement, revenue growth percentage, cost reduction — are far more compelling than generic praise.

Where to Display Testimonials

Your homepage (above the fold or before your primary CTA), individual service pages (service-specific testimonials), pricing or engagement pages (where purchase anxiety is highest), and your About page. Testimonials should appear throughout the buyer's journey — not in a single gallery most visitors never reach.

The fix: Identify your three best client outcomes from the last 12 months. Contact each client this week with a specific, easy request — a Google review, brief email testimonial, or 30-second video. Feature whatever you receive prominently on your homepage within 48 hours.
