How to Use Google Ads Audience Targeting to Reach Better Prospects
Most Google Ads campaigns are optimized around keywords. The best advertisers layer audience targeting on top — showing the right ads to the right people searching the right terms.
In-Market Audiences
Google builds In-Market audiences based on recent search and browsing behaviour. Layering these onto your campaigns lets you bid higher for searchers who are in active buying mode.
Customer Match
Upload your existing customer email list to Google Ads. Target past customers with upsell campaigns, exclude them from acquisition campaigns, or create Similar Audiences to reach new prospects who look like your best customers.
Observation vs Targeting Mode
Add audiences in Observation mode first to gather data without restricting reach. Once you see which audiences convert better, switch to Targeting mode and apply bid adjustments.
The fix: Add your customer email list to Google Ads as a Customer Match audience in Observation mode. After 30 days, review performance and apply bid adjustments based on what you find.
