How to Create an SEO Content Calendar That Actually Gets Executed
Most businesses that invest in SEO have a content strategy. Very few have a content calendar that actually gets executed consistently. The gap between strategy and execution is where most SEO investment dies.
Start With Fewer Topics, Not More
A calendar with 50 topics and no published articles is worse than one with 12 topics and 12 published articles. Set a publishing cadence you can realistically sustain — one article per week or two per month is achievable for most small businesses.
Build a Topic Cluster Structure
Instead of publishing unrelated articles, build topic clusters — a comprehensive pillar page on a broad topic supported by specific articles that link to it. This builds more ranking authority than disconnected articles.
Assign Clear Ownership and Deadlines
Content without an owner doesn't get published. Assign a specific person to each article with a specific deadline. Track status weekly.
The fix: Create a content calendar for the next 90 days with one article per week. Assign deadlines. Schedule the first three articles into your calendar as recurring appointments before you do anything else.
