How to Optimize Your Google Business Profile for Maximum Visibility

By Scott Nguyen · Aug 14, 2024 · 1 min read

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a potential customer sees when they search for your business — or for the services you provide. A fully optimized profile significantly improves your visibility in local search and builds trust before a visitor even reaches your website.

Complete Every Section

Google rewards completeness. Fill in every available field: business name, address, phone number, website, hours, service areas, business category, and description. Most businesses stop at the basics. The businesses ranking highest in local search have completed every optional field.

Choose the Right Primary Category

Your primary business category is the most important classification signal you send to Google. Choose the most specific category that accurately describes your core business. "E-commerce Consultant" is more specific and more valuable than "Business Consultant."

Add Services and Products

Google Business Profile allows you to list specific services and products with descriptions. Each service listing creates additional keyword coverage for searches related to what you offer. Most businesses skip this entirely.

Post Regularly

Google Business Profile allows you to publish posts — updates, offers, events, and new products. Regular posting signals to Google that your profile is active and well-maintained, which correlates with better visibility. Aim for one post per week.

Respond to Every Review

Responding to reviews — both positive and negative — signals engagement and professionalism. It also gives you an opportunity to include relevant keywords naturally in your responses, which can improve visibility.

The fix: Log into your Google Business Profile today and complete every incomplete section. Set a recurring reminder to post once per week.
