How to Write Amazon Product Titles That Rank and Convert

By Scott Nguyen · Mar 26, 2025 · 1 min read

Your Amazon product title has to accomplish two things simultaneously: rank in search and convince a buyer to click. Most titles do neither well.

The Structure That Works

Lead with your brand name, follow with the product type, then include the most important attribute (size, material, colour, use case). End with a secondary feature if space allows. This structure naturally incorporates keywords while remaining readable.

Front-Load the Keywords That Matter Most

Amazon's algorithm weights keywords that appear earlier in the title more heavily. Put your primary keyword in the first 5 words. Don't bury it after your brand name and a string of adjectives.

Write for the Scanner, Not the Reader

Buyers scan titles in under two seconds. If your title requires reading to understand, you've already lost most shoppers. The key information should be obvious at a glance.

Character Limits Matter by Category

Amazon caps title length by category — typically 80–200 characters. Going over gets your listing suppressed. Going significantly under means you're leaving keyword real estate unused.

The fix: Pull your top 5 competitor titles. Identify the keywords and structure they share. Rebuild your title with that structure, your brand first, and your strongest keyword in positions 2–5.
